Y5: Caring At Christmas 2015

As part of their R.E. topic, ‘Caring at Christmas’, our Y5 children have been extremely busy with charity and community work in the local area.

On Friday 11th December, they organised a ‘Christmas jumper fashion show’, raising £140.50 for Make A Wish, Macmillan Cancer Support and Save The Children; their cake sale raised a stunning £196.85 for Crisis at Christmas (a charity set up to support the homeless) and finally, three huge boxes full of clothing and toiletries were delivered by Miss Johnson to ‘In Out Of The Cold’, a Middlesbrough charity for the homeless.

The Y5s also visited Ayresome Court residential home to sing songs for the residents: this experience had a profound impact on many of our Y5 children ….

“I felt so happy when we went home: they made my day and hopefully I made theirs.” – Ollie Best.

“As we began to sing, some people began to cry. Most of the residents joined in and liked watching us sing Christmas carols. When we spoke to residents, we split up: I spoke to Barbara, Olive and Pauline. They all told me about their families and who visits regularly. When I saw the smile on some of the people’s faces, it made me want to cry.” – Phebe Lancaster

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the Y5 children in their endeavours in raising money and supporting our local community in such a fantastic range of ways.
